Plant ID Walk

Join Dr. Larry Mellichamp, professor of Biology at UNC Charlotte who will point out botanical highlights of the area. Will Stuart will lead the group through the refuge, known for its longleaf pine forest, 190 species of birds and 750 plant species. The refuge also supports a large population of endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers which we will attempt to spot. CSNWR is located in Chesterfield County, SC.

Plan to bring a picnic lunch and meet at 8am at the Matthews Community Center to carpool or at the Lake Bee Recreation area by 9:30am. Don’t forget your binoculars! Will Stuart will take those interested on an optional afternoon bird walk.

Don’t miss this opportunity to spend a day with Dr. Larry Mellichamp, who recently published and released his new book, Native Plants of the Southeast, with beautiful photographs by Will Stuart.
