Having grown up in Alaska, I have always had a great interest in wildlife and animals, so much so that my backyard is a certified wildlife habitat.
As a hobby, I began purchasing everything for my backyard wildlife 15 years ago from the late Roger Ford who also had a passion for wild birds and nature. That passion led him to open up Backyard Wild in May of 1996, and his legacy was followed through his children, Jason Ford & Cary Mull through the end of 2012.
Taking over ownership of Backyard Wild, now known as Backyard Birds, has been an awarding career transition for me after spending 30 years in the cosmetics industry, 21 years of that with Belk as their cosmetics buyer. I love the interaction with all of our customers learning from their experiences with wildlife and also helping others and sharing my experience as well.
It’s a great feeling to know so many people in our community feed the birds as well as provide shelter, homes and water for them. My mission is to continue to encourage people in our community to take part in making their own backyards certified wildlife habitats.
People have come to know and love the warm, friendly service from the local family-owned Backyard Wild, and my goal is to continue to provide that same level of friendly service and commitment to the loyal patrons and new visitors of Backyard Birds in memory of the late Roger Ford.
