This year will commence the 18th annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), to take place this weekend Feb. 13-16, 2015 – coinciding with Valentine’s Day.
This annual event is an opportunity for birders, both beginners and experienced, to contribute to a research effort sponsored by the National Audubon Society.
The GBBC is a joint project between the society and also the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and Bird Studies Canada. Anyone can register for the GBBC and only 15 minutes are needed for counting birds in order to participate, and can be done anywhere – either your own backyard, a local park, or bird sanctuary.
By registering online, you will be able to report your findings on the GBBC website, which is updated hourly with maps showing a range of birds in the area.
